HD Hyundai Electric is strengthening its presence in the North American market, expanding its manufacturing capacity in the United States. The company said Sunday that it held a groundbreaking ceremony in Montgomery, Alabama, Friday (local time), for the second plant of HD Hyundai Power Transformers USA, its North American manufacturing subsidiary. The new facility, scheduled to be completed in April next year, will span 29,000 square meters within the existing Montgomery site. By investing $200 million, the company will expand its ultra-high-voltage transformer production capacity by 50 percent and establish new testing and production lines for 765-kilovolt transformers, a key component seeing rising demand as the U.S. pushes to add high-voltage backbone transmission networks to its power grid. Hyundai Motor on Thursday launched an updated version of its flagship Ioniq 9 electric sport utility vehicle (SUV) in Korea with enhanced convenience features across all trims, the company said. In the entry-level Exclusive trim, Hyundai Motor added second-row ventilated and swiveling seats as standard features. The Prestige trim now includes water-repellent front windows, while the top-tier Calligraphy trim comes with heated third-row seats as standard. Hyundai Motor also expanded premium design elements previously available only in the top trim to the Prestige trim to enhance the vehicle's appeal. Hyundai Motor and Kia reported record vehicle sales for February in the United States, driven by robust demand for sport utility vehicles (SUVs) and hybrid models, the automakers said Wednesday. The Korean automakers sold a combined 137,412 vehicles in the U.S. last month, up 5 percent from a year earlier, according to the companies. Hyundai Motor, including its luxury brand Genesis, sold 71,407 units, up 5.7 percent on-year, while Kia's sales gained 4.3 percent on-year to 66,005 units. Both Hyundai and Kia marked their highest-ever sales for the month of February. Hyundai Motor's performance was backed by strong demand for midsize and large SUVs, with sales of the Palisade jumping 28.4 percent on-year to 10,025 units and those of the Santa Fe rising 18.6 percent to 11,344 units. The sales boost of Kia was supported by sharp gains across key models. Boston Dynamics unveiled the latest version of its humanoid Atlas robot Monday at CES in Las Vegas. The robot, with a glowing circle for a face and a fully electric, battery-powered body, is so advanced that it will soon be working alongside human factory workers for parent company Hyundai, the companies claimed. Hyundai said it plans on mass-producing Atlas as "production-ready humanoid robots" that will be put to work at the automaker's car plants, starting with the Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant in Savannah, Georgia. Hyundai Motor Group said Thursday it will significantly expand its plug-and-charge (PnC) electric vehicle (EV) charging network starting next year to provide a more convenient and secure charging experience for customers. PnC is an international standard technology that allows drivers to start charging simply by connecting the charging cable to the vehicle, with user authentication, charging and payment carried out automatically without the need for cards or additional verification unlike conventional charging systems. The group plans to expand access to the PnC service beyond its current 64 E-pit charging stations by partnering with 12 major domestic charging operators, including Chaevi, GS ChargEV and NICE Infra. Hyundai will first work with Chaevi and Hyundai Engineering to apply PnC technology to their existing charging stations by the first quarter of 2026, increasing the number of PnC-enabled chargers to more than 1,500.
