Hyundai Motor, Audi and BYD are redirecting their strategic focus on electric sedans to achieve balanced sales growth with their SUV lineups. The three carmakers recently introduced flagship all-electric models in Korea, hoping to capture local demand for quality sedans. Last month, Hyundai Motor unveiled the freshly redesigned IONIQ 6 electric vehicle (EV) for the Korean market. The upgraded model came in almost three years after the vehicle debuted in September 2022. The IONIQ 6 is one of the carmaker’s flagship EV models, along with the IONIQ 5 compact SUV. The new IONIQ 6 has clear upsides compared with other electric sedans, as the vehicle is capable of traveling up to 562 kilometers on a single charge — the highest among EVs available in Korea. Given local customers’ strong preference for longer-range EVs, the vehicle holds a strong competitive edge in the non-premium EV sedan market. The vehicle is available for less than 50 million won ($35,700), making it an outstanding

SK Innovation's recent decision to replace its company cars with Hyundai Motor electric vehicles (EVs) was in contrast to expectations that SK Group affiliates would follow Chairman Chey Tae-won's recommendation to buy automobiles from General Motors or other U.S. carmakers to help counter trade pressure from the Donald Trump administration. The intermediate holding company overseeing SK Group’s petrochemical and energy businesses recently instructed all executives to choose between the IONIQ 9 and eG80 as their new company vehicles. Both Hyundai EVs are powered by batteries made by SK On, an SK Innovation affiliate. SK Innovation plans to begin replacing its fleet next month, aiming to complete the transition by the end of the year. “Amid the global economic slowdown and weak EV demand, the domestic EV industry has faced difficulties,” an SK Innovation official said. “We made this decision to boost EV adoption in Korea by ensuring all our executives use EVs.” In his capacity as the

Hyundai Motor and Kia are zeroing in on the lucrative European electric vehicle (EV) market to offset a potential fall in eco-friendly vehicle sales in the United States ahead of the planned termination of EV subsidies. Hyundai Motor Group's export of electric vehicles (EVs) from Korea to the United States fell nearly 90 percent on-year in the first five months of the year, as the automaker shifts production of America-bound vehicles to its new U.S. facility, according to industry data Tuesday. According to the data from the Korea Automobile & Mobility Association (KAMA), Hyundai Motor and Kia combined exported 7,156 EVs to the U.S. between January and May this year, down 88 percent from 59,705 units during the same period a year earlier. Hyundai Motor, including its premium Genesis line, shipped 3,906 units, marking an 87 percent decline, while Kia's exports dropped 89.1 percent to 3,250 units. The volume represents the lowest level for the January-May period since Hyundai Motor Group began accelerating its electrification strategy in 2021. The decline is largely attributed to Hyundai's ongoing efforts to localize EV production in the U.S. In the first half of the year, the automaker completed

Hyundai just unveiled its second-ever performance EV, the Ioniq 6 N, at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in West Sussex, England. The new variant carries over a lot of what made the Ioniq 5 N so appealing, while adding a little more range and a little more giddyap. But more importantly is a suite of features designed to mimic the best parts about high-performance vehicles, like shifting, engine noise, and drifting. Hyundai recognizes that just because it’s swapped the roaring 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4 engine with twin electric motors doesn’t mean it needs to leave behind all the hair-raising, goosebump-inducing sensations of steering an insanely powerful sedan around a racetrack. Based on Hyundai’s RN22e concept, the Hyundai Ioniq 6 N uses the same powertrain as the Ioniq 5 N. That includes the same 84kWh battery pack, which
