ChargePoint (NYSE: CHPT) and Eaton just unveiled ChargePoint Express Grid, powered by Eaton, a V2X‑ready ultrafast EV charging platform with full‑site power gear that pushes passenger EV charging up to 600 kW and brings megawatt‑level power for heavy‑duty fleets. more…
ChargePoint's newest platform can support charging at up to 3 megawatts, far exceeding what the most advanced EVs can accept today.
ChargePoint is ramping up the power for its next-generation DC fast charging architecture to 600 kW for passenger vehicles, and up to 3.75 megawatts (3,750 kW) for heavy-duty trucks — enough to power an entire football stadium. Most EVs on the road aren’t able to accept more than 350 kW of power while charging, but ChargePoint CEO Rick Wilmer said the idea was to future proof its charging infrastructure in anticipation of the arrival of higher powered EVs. Another consideration is China, which is beginning to roll out EVs with higher-voltage battery architectures that can handle increased power levels. But while China continues to set the standard for ultra-fast EV charging, the Campbell, CA-based charging company said its important for America to keep pace. “We’ve got to catch up,” said Wilmer in an interview.

ChargePoint's new AC charging adds a lot of speed for capable EVs—not to mention bidirectional charging. You may want to upgrade.
ChargePoint is ready to speed things up. On Thursday, the EV charging company revealed new AC Level 2 EV chargers that it says effectively double the speed of typical Level 2 chargers. The new architecture also supports bidirectional charging, so owners can use their EVs to power their home or business if the need arises. The first new models are expected to arrive in the US later this year. ChargePoint says its next-gen Level 2 chargers are rated for 90 amps and can deliver 19.2kW of power, allowing EV owners to charge their batteries from zero to 100 percent in “about four hours.” This is a noticeable increase based on today’s market. Level 2 chargers are commonly used as home chargers for EV owners, plugged into 220-volt outlets and delivering 15 to 80 amps. The charging rate for most Level 2

ChargePoint's CEO got so sick of the problem he started making prototypes.
Photo by Andrew Liptak / The Verge ChargePoint has had enough of vandalizing thieves who saw through EV charger cables to steal valuable copper — so now it’s making new “cut-resistant” cables and adding alarm systems in an attempt to mitigate the damage. ChargePoint’s VP of product management Steve Farrell tells The Verge the cable uses a patent-pending technology that includes strategically placed steel to provide protection. Although the design may make the cables a bit larger and less flexible, Farrell wrote that usability won’t be impacted, and that most users “will not notice the difference” with the changes. The new cable can be retrofitted on commercial and fleet charging stations (both AC and DC models) made by the company. Farrell also says the cables were tested against “commonly used devices,” including wirecutters, bolt cutters, and battery powered tools. ChargePoint
Looking to stop potential vandals before they act, the EV charging company introduced a new set of cut-resistant cables in conjunction with a new alarm system.
