While other smart locks lean on hidden USB ports or metal contacts for connecting a 9-volt battery to replenish a dead battery, the new Ring Smart Lock incorporates a more convenient charger right into its thumb-turn dial. A new current is reshaping the global battery market. In the first half of 2026, global shipments of lithium-ion batteries for energy storage systems (ESS) reached 461 gigawatt-hour (GWh), up 71 percent from 270 GWh in the same period a year earlier, according to SNE Research. POSCO Holdings has completed the upstream process of its second brine lithium plant at the Hombre Muerto Salt Flat in Argentina, laying the groundwork for an annual production capacity of 50,000 tons of lithium hydroxide, eight years after acquiring mining rights to the site.
